Andrianna Kaimis2/2/16IB Lang & LitPeriod 6RationaleIn class we studied gender roles and how they make a difference in society by looking at products and advertisements. For my Written Task 1 I decided to write an opinion based column. I will be examining the inequality between women and men in merchandising. The specific piece of evidence I will be analyzing is two Marvel’s Avengers shirts, one directed at women and the other at men, the men’s shirt says, “Be a Hero” and the women’s shirt says, “I Need a Hero”. I will also be looking at the difference between the number of women superheroes to men superheroes in Marvel movies.I chose to write an opinion column because it lets me express my opinion about a very serious topic and allows me to share it with others. This topic allows me to have an opinion because the shirts claim that women are always the ones that need to be saved and that they cannot be heroes on their own. There are significantly less women superhero role models than men, not to mention that the women superheroes are not as powerful as the men. The purpose of me showcasing my opinion about gender inequality in the Marvel franchise is to raise awareness about this issue. Word Count: 228
