Elizabeth S Due Friday Dec. 15 Music 070 Final Project Analysis of a Binary Form Work Menuet of Haydn's Sonata no. 10 is composed in C Major. The overall form of the work (ignoring the repeat signs) is rounded binary , with mm. 1-8 being part A, mm. 9-12 being part B (tiny section). Mm. 13-20 represents a sort of A', as it is almost exactly a repetition of mm. 1-8 with a different cadential formula at its close. If we take into account the repeat signs, the form would be a more strophic AABABA, with tiny B sections in between A sections (considering the A' to be an A). The texture is melody and accompaniment , as the left hand doesn't do anything more interesting than quarter notes, half notes and the occasional rest in which it drops out altogether. The momentary respites lend the piece the feel of a monophonic texture . The rhythmic motive is introduced in the right hand of the entire first measure. Part A is built in an antecedent-consequent phrasing structure. The antecedent phrase (mm. 1-4) consists of two subphrases, the first (mm.1-2) of which has the motive
