The Tet offensive, which took place on January 31, 1968, was among the largest military movements in the Vietnam War launched by Viet Cong forces and North Vietnamese Army against South Vietnam, the US, and their associates. This war was a series of unexpected attacks against the citizens, control centers and the military in South Vietnam. The timing of the attack, magnitude, and violence gained maximum surprise and almost caught the US and South Vietnamese forces off-guard (Ford 66). However, the next morning when the collectivist operations began, the offensive had covered almost all parts of the country working under proper coordination. The attacks brought confusion to the US and South Vietnamese armies making them lose control over some cities, but they sought immediate response to defend the attacks causing significant casualties on the collectivist forces. Tet was the most significant holiday on the Vietnamese calendar as the festivity of the lunate New Year; the holiday was an event that marked an informal truce in South Vietnam’s conflict with the North Vietnam and Viet Cong (Willbanks 178).
