PSYCHOLOGY 2 The Langdon Down Museum of Learning Disability opened in the year 2012 as an exhibition of the history of Normansfield Hospital, care of people with learning disabilities and the history of John Langdon Down and his entire family. John Langdon Down who later died in 1896 leaving behind two sons who succeeded the facility founded the Normansfield hospital, which now houses the Langdon Down Museum, in 1868. The place was a home for individuals who had learning disabilities therefore it served as a place where those people were educated and hence named Down’s Syndrome after Down. The facility has a theatre commissioned by Down to enable his patients to learn other co-curriculum activities such as music and drama. During the period when the Langdon Down was started, the patients with mental deficiencies were referred to idiots and were only educated with the aim of making them fit in the society. The asylum was then referred to a temporary arrangement to nurse hopes for those
