Moral Development Theory 2 The Kohlberg theory of moral development has been divided into three levels, which constitute of six different stages where each level comprises of two phases. These levels are the pre-conventional, conventional and the post-conventional level whereby the conventional level is made up of the authority and social order (morality, law and order) and interpersonal consensus and orthodoxy (social norms and the nice girl- good boy attitude). The post-conventional level, on the other hand, comprises of universal ethical principles and the social convention orientation. The conventional level of moral development is more prevalent in the adults and teenagers where individuals follow the norms of the society and obey the rules even when there are no consequences for disobedience or obedience.
