ETHICS 2 Robert Nozick, an American philosopher, states that several ethical approaches come up in the conduct of the state; the two theories to ethics that address the role of government in protecting human rights are Utilitarianism and deontology. Utilitarianism urges individuals to promote happiness while deontology requires people to do their duties. The primary principle of utilitarianism is that the perfect thing to engage in is anything that focuses on promoting happiness among a large number of individuals. According to Lamb, 2015, it is the results of what we do that matter most, and these results are measured based on the reference to the general conditions of people. Act-utilitarianism is the cleanest form utilitarianism where each action is examined based on reference to the consequences in all the circumstances. Therefore, in act-utilitarianism, all the
