Surname 1 Name Tutor Course Date Market Analysis of Similar Businesses: Pepsi vs. coke in the U.S In macroeconomics, when one considers perfect substitute existing in a near duopoly, since the two have the same taste and nearly the same pricing. It then all comes down to marketing and branding in order to achieve success in the market. However, the market share continues to highly favor coca cola with the two having an interesting past during the great depression. Pepsi was declared bankrupt twice, until it was bought out by a candy manufacturer. It is worth noting that in two separate eventualities, coca cola was given the chance to purchase Pepsi and each time, they declined. This is a decision that could have potentially ended up in coca cola enjoying pure monopoly for decades as well as profits and market power. Since this point, fierce competition began and this included billions spent in advertising, the blind test TV advertisement sponsored by Pepsi, a wide array of endorsement from celebrities and the coca cola share a coke campaign. Yet, coca cola continues to dominate the market. Some of the reasons for this market dominance is the availability of coca cola. Coke is available in more places that Pepsi is. For instance, at Union House, one can only find Pepsi in the mini supermarket food works while coke is available at all the other food outlets. Food outlets such as Nando’s, Subway, McDonalds and sushi outlets sell coke in comparison to KFC which is the only one that sells Pepsi. The list of places where Pepsi can be sold is much smaller
