CHAPTER ONE INTRODUCTION 1.1Company Profile Kenya Pipeline Company is a state owned corporation under the ministry of Energy established in the year 1973 under the companies Act (CAP 486) and it started its operations in 1978. The company was formed due to the urge to enhance transportation of petroleum products from Mombasa to Nairobi; this is because transportation by road was raising a safety concern due to the various accidents that were caused by the trucks. Therefore, the main aim of setting up the company was to avail a safer, efficient, cost effective and a reliable means of transportation and storage of the products. The Company’s other objectives include: i. To build a pipeline for the conveyance of petroleum or petroleum products from Mombasa to Nairobi ii. To own, manage or operate such pipelines and any other pipelines and associated ancillary facilities iii. To market, process, treat, deal in petroleum products and other products and goods and provide transport and other distributive facilities, outlets and services in connection therewith. 1.1.1KPC’S Vision Africa’s Premier Oil and Gas Company 1.1.2Mission
