The body shows evidence that men and women of all age groups who are physically active have a decreased risk of developing high blood pressure. Blood pressure increases when a person is under emotional stress and tension, but whether or not psychological interventions aimed at stress reduction can decrease blood pressure in patients with hypertension is not clear. Some people confused high blood pressure with high blood glucose, and others who have both health problems, have heard much more about diabetes than they have about hypertension. There was a great deal of consensus that dietary choices and patterns of “poor eating” were “a problem in some culture”. Dietary habits were seen as being passed down through generations of African Americans.
