Before I even began to read the articles, I read over their titles and I began to think to myself about in which directions these articles were going to go. I wasn’t sure how deep the concept of “meaning” was going to be explained. After reading the first article, “Islands of Meaning” and being more informed about ideas such as boundaries, space, frames, times and ritual transitions I started to think deeper into them. What triggered my mind the most was the idea of ritual transactions. When I think of rituals, I think of tradition and something that is customary so I did relate to what the article stated. What got me thinking the most, however, was when Zerubavel states that “society fails to punish deviants who venture beyond the limit of what it defines as acceptable, members will wonder whether such a line really exists” (Zerubavel 22). After reading this sentence I instantly thought about Paris Hilton and her actions which sent her to jail. The idea that she got out of jail early (due to whatever she was experiencing and her
