Haja Kamara Richard M. Hodgetts (“Leadership Techniques in the Project Organization,” Academy of Management Journal, June 1968, pp. 211–219) conducted a survey on aerospace, chemical, construction, and state government workers as to whether they would rate the following leadership techniques as very important, important, or not important: Negotiation was rated as important; as it helped in them settling differences whereby compromise or agreement is reached to avoid arguments and disputes amongst themselves and their employer. ● Personality and/or persuasive ability was rated very important Personality characteristics also played a key role in his relationship with the functional organization, however. Personality played a key role was in persuading the functional managers, such as those in manufacturing, to give the project certain priorities so it would not fall behind schedule.
