At the 5% significance level, the sample data does not support the professor's claim that the mean time reported will be less than 60 seconds. 2. We are 95% confident that the true mean time reported by the students will be somewhere between 55 seconds and 61 seconds. 3. Solution 1: Use a twotailed ttest testing the mean = 98.6 vs. it does not = 98.6; the test stat is t = 3.23, which will allow us to reject the null. Thus the data does contradict the status quo belief that the mean body temp is 98.6. Solution 2: Use a 95% confidence interval and check to see if 98.6 is inside the interval. The interval is [97.9, 98.5]. Since 98.6 is not inside the interval the data contradicts the belief that the mean body temp is 98.6. 4.
