SCHOOL-COMMUNITY BENCHMARK PROJECTDemographic Data AnalysisOglesby, Illinois houses three-thousand and forty-four residents, with two elementaryschool buildings, a Catholic school, and a community college. Oglesby has a small-town feelthat allows residents to be community-minded and involved with public services and education(City of Oglesby, 2022). The intimate population translates into the public schools, whereenrollment reflects small class sizes, dedicated teachers and administration, and involvedparents and community members.Lincoln Elementary School enrolls students in preschool through fifth grade andWashington Junior High School enrolls sixth through eighth grade students, with a total of fourhundred and forty-nine students within the district. Oglesby Public Schools District is one oftwelve rural schools that feeds into the public high school, LaSalle-Peru Township High School,or a Catholic private school, Saint Bede Academy, located in Peru, Illinois.Lincoln Elementary School’s total enrollment, consisting of grades preschool through fifthgrade, is three hundred and eleven students. Fifty-one percent of students are male andforty-nine percent of students are female. Seventy-eight percent of students are White,seventeen percent Hispanic, and five percent Black or Asian. Fifty percent of students qualify aslow income, and four percent are homeless; this falls below the state average of fifty-twopercent, and can be reflected in the poverty rate being approximately six percent in Oglesby,Illinois (City of Oglesby, 2022; Census Reporter, 2022). Twenty percent of students have anIndividualized Learning Plan (IEP) for a specific learning disability, health impairment, or otherintellectual or physical disabilities. Eighty-eight percent of residents in Oglesby speak Englishand ten percent speak Spanish, while three percent of students are English Language Learners(Census Reporter, 2022).
