HYPOXIA O Hypoxia: state of oxygen deficiency in the blood, tissues, and cells sufficient to cause an impairment of body functions. O Symptoms: • Increased breathing rate. • Light -headed or dizzy. • Tingling or warm sensations, sweating. • Poor coordination, impaired judgment. • Lost or impaired vision, sleepiness. • Cyanosis - discoloration at the finger beds (bluing). • Feeling of well being (euphoria).

RAPID DECROMPRESSION O Arapid decompression results in the cabin losing pressurization at a rapid rate. The lungs are still able to decompress faster than the cabin. The air will be pulled out of your lungs. O Rapid decompression can reduce TUC by 50%. O If an explosive decompression occurs the cabin will depressurize faster than the lungs can decompress. This could result in lung damage.

CABIN PRESSURIZATION O Cabin pressurization systems maintain a cabin altitude lower than the actual flight altitude. O This allows for flight at high altitude without the need to wear oxygen masks.
