MDM 4U-C Test Study Notes Key concepts for Unit 1 Randomization: the process of choosing a random sample of the population Replication: the repetition of an experiment or an observation under similar conditions Control: a way to make sure that the effects you see in your experiment come from just the one factor under study Controlled experiment: requires that two virtually identical groups are tested: one has the factor that is being tested applied to it, while the other group does not have the factor that is being tested applied to it; the second group is referred to as the control Simple random sample: requires that every selection is equally likely to be selected and every combination of selections is equally likely to be selected Systematic random sample: has a random starting point and then every kth member, depending on the desired sample size, is selected for inclusion in the sample Stratified random sample: requires that the population
