These staticsshow that Australia’s healthcare system is better than that of the U.S in so many ways.The system differs from that of the U.S in several ways. First, in Australia individuals canaccess public health services for free whereas in the U.S, if you do not have insurance or ameans to pay for health services, one cannot get treated (Healthcare, Chanel, 2021). Inaddition, the Australian healthcare system differs from that of the U.S in that insurancepremium for Medicare is paid through taxes whereby all Australians pay a 2% Medicareincome tax levy and high-income earners who do not have private insurance are charged anadditional 1% while in the U.S, 64% of the insurance premiums are paid by the governmentand the remaining percentage is paid by an individual (Healthcare, Chanel, 2021).Moreover, in terms of medication, Australia has a Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS)that reduces the need for individuals to use out-of-pocket means to pay for medication whilein the U.S, individuals depend on private insurance to pay for their medication (Healthcare,Chanel, 2021). Finally, healthcare costs in the U.S are very high compared to Australia. TheU.S spends 17.2% of its GDP while Australia spends 9.6% of its GDP. In addition, it costsmore to a stay in hospital in the U.S compared to Australia. For example, the average cost ofstaying in a hospital in the U.S is 18000 dollars while in Australia it is 6000 dollars.
