CJ 270   test will be Feb. 7 31/01/2008 11:57:00 Intermediate sanctions A variety of punishments more restrictive than traditional probation but less  severe and less costly than incarceration Examples include o Home confinement o Electronic monitoring o Intensive supervision probation o Boot camp o Asset forfeiture Probation most frequently used criminal sanction Nearly 60% of adults under correctional supervision are on probation Probationers serve their sentences in the community under supervision They are required to abide by the conditions of their probation o Examples of conditions include drug testing, employment, and  educational programs.   The Death Penalty The US is the only western democracy to continue to use the death penalty. Death is final and irreversible and is therefore different from other  punishments. Capital cases must be conducted according to higher standards of fairness
