Mandatory releases is the most common type of release from  state prison History of parole Conditional release of an offender from incarceration but not from the legal  custody of the state in which they committed the crime (“state” issued) Originated from conditional pardons, indentured apprenticeship,  transportation of criminal from country to country, issuance of “tickets to  leave”. During the 1900s, parole was used as a release mechanism and a method of  community supervision. Release from prison Mandatory release o Occurs after the inmate has served time equal to the total sentence  minus the good time or to a certain percentage of the total  sentence(linked with indeterminate) Discretionary release(linked with indeterminate) o
