As you read in Chapter 2 (Reviewing the Literature), part of this process involves doing
background research regarding the issue or problem you are currently facing. Few
problems are so unique or original that there is no other information about similar situations
as is yours. It may be at a more abstract level, or in a different context than yours, but
understanding the nature of the problem is an important step in helping to solve the one
you face. Depending on the nature of your problem and its setting there are different ways
of collecting background information. In the Walooms case study you recently completed,
the manager collected background information by interviewing several people "in the field"
who were potential sources of information regarding the Walooms problem. In academia,
traditional "Reviews of the Literature" (ROL's) involve reviewing and critiquing studies others
have done to fully understand their problem. Often, multiple methods are used to explore
the "background of a problem".
This week's assignment requires you access, review, critique and analyze a selected
business research article of your choice and interest. This assignment serves two
purposes. One purpose of the assignment is to provide you the opportunity to review and
critique your selected research article. You can use the information and methodology in
section 2.5.2 of the text (Critiquing a Published Article) to prepare your review (particularly
on pages 28 and 29). However, be sure you fully understand all of Chapters 1, 2 and 3 in
