Course Reflection
During the course of this class, I learned a lot about the nursing profession. Other classes,
mostly focused on diseases and the public, but I really enjoyed that this class didn’t just focus on
the public but the actual nurse’s state. We were able to go into detail and take a look at the
societal issues in the nursing profession. As a new nurse, I feel like I wasn’t fully aware of these
societal issues until I started working in the hospital. For example, the long working hours added
with the short staffing increases our workload at work causing us to have 5 patients instead of 4
and as I continue to work and have to deal with tougher patients caused me to have burn out a lot
faster despite being a new graduate. At first, I felt like I was just being over dramatic and that it
was all in my head, but this class helped me see that these issues are real, burn out is a real thing
and we need to speak up to change these issues, not just for my sake but for all the nurses, new
and experienced.
