Physiological regulation of Na+ Reabsorption and filtration Sodium excreted= Sodium filtered- sodium reabsorbed Of the angiotensin molecules angiotensin II is the only one that is active. ACE is in high concentration within lung capillaries. Ang II causes synthesis and release of aldosterone, which then exerts its effects in sodium ion retention. Sodium reabsoprtion increases due to Na-K ATPase pump configuration. Aldosterone- steroid hormone. Finds receptor intracellularly, increases protein synthesis, increase leak channels (sodium), increase Na-K pump, increases sodium absorption. The other way to regulate sodium is through filtration. You cannot get a negative net filtration, that would say it favors net absorption. You will never get net absorption from bowmans space, the lowest NFP is 0. The fluid pressure in bowmans capsule is untouchable and cant be changed. So osmotic force cannot be changed so to decrease GFR the body regulates glomerular hydrostatic pressure. A combo of increase GFR and reabsorption of sodium also means an increase in water absorption as water follows sodium. Hemmhorage Decrease in plasma level leads to a chain of decreasing cascades in slide… For kidney there are some pressure receptors sitting in the atria. The drop in pressure due to low plasma levels activate baroreceptors. Baroreceptor activity decreases. This sets up the negative feedback system to undue the changes. Increase of sympathetic activity to the renal nerves (afferent arterioles, constriction and the juxtaglomerular cells, which
