The flawless public façade that these twoportrayed masked their private, deranged lives, and hid the hedonistic and control-orientedpsychopaths that they truly are.Summary. In October of 1987, Paul Bernardo and Karla Homolka first met at a hotelrestaurant in Scarborough and instantly were attracted to each other. As Paul and Karla’srelationship grew, so did his relationship with one of her younger sisters, Tammy. On ChristmasEve of 1990, Tammy was the first of their victims, as they laced her alcoholic drinks withHalcion, an animal tranquilizer stolen from the veterinarian clinic that Karla worked at. This ledto rape and sexual assault performed by Paul, and her choking to death on her own vomit laterthat evening. 6 months after Tammy’s death, Paul and Karla targeted their second victim, LeslieMahaffy, and kidnapped her from her hometown in Burlington.
