One of the significant challenges I face is setting therapeutic boundaries with a client
with whom I have a relationship. The client, in this case, knows some of my personal life, and
the conversation could take a different path as they might reference their issues to my personal
life ( ex. Ansam, what will you do if your child does that?). They will feel they have the right to
mix my professional life with my personal one. That could create a conflict at work (Natwick,
2017).
Moreover, it is easier to deal with friends as I will not be objective during counseling
sessions. However, keeping therapeutic boundaries with family members can be challenging. It is
vital not to get deeply involved with them and intervene according to their needs. It starts by
discussing the intricacy and liabilities that might occur from this dual relationship. A pattern of
biased conversations needs to be prevented or suppressed if already occurring.
