My heart repeatedly skipped beats and I was about to check out... not from my room but from life"(Spencer 1). Jeremy Spencer, drummer in the band Five Finger Death Punch and writer of Death Punch'd: Surviving Five Finger Death Punch's Metal Mayhem, uses this quote as a start to his book describing when he overdosed on cocaine. The grip of addiction is a very tight and painful grasp which can take hold of anyone at any given moment. Accepting and moving past addiction, though not impossible, is very difficult and never truly goes away. Addiction in its entirety has exceeding awful effects on those it bombards. Addiction is literally defined as, " Habitual psychological or physiologic dependence on a substance or practice that is beyond voluntary control" ( ( Addiction). In other words, addiction is a physical or mental need for something that is beyond one's control. This need for any substance
