1When we think of social workers, we always look at how we can help people in theUnited States. Our immediate attention goes to our local communities, citizens within our nation, and how we can make our country a better place for everyone. We see human rights beingviolated in other countries, but our concern has been the citizens of our nation, but our nation hascitizens from all over the world. Our duty as social workers is to protect all humans foreign anddomesticated. What happens in other countries can have an impact on our own country. We mustassist in every way possible to enhance a person’s well-being. The Universal Declaration ofHuman Rights applies to all people and all countries around the world. It has thirty articles tohelp guide us on protecting various human rights and sets a foundation to protect the people frompower, government inconsistencies, discrimination, and inequality. Social justice is basicfairness, system change, and a process and product that helps fight for human rights. The threecontemporary views: Legal, communitive, and distributive justice together form social justice forindividuals, society, and society's obligation to the people (Hansford, 2022). Each UniversalDeclaration of Human Rights applies to each view by assisting in making sure everyone hasopportunity and equality. Social workers must advocate social justice to anyone’s human rightshave been violated including people in other countries. Some countries have barriers, challenges and go against the Universal Declaration ofHuman Rights because of government power, culture, religious beliefs, and lack of resources. Anexample is human trafficking which goes against article four “No one shall be held in slavery or
2servitude; slavery and the slave trade shall be prohibited in all their forms” (1948). This happensin the United States and all over the world. We assist and help victims of human trafficking andby helping them we can educate our communities, other countries, and advocate for stricter lawsso that the government, agencies, and laws can protect people and victims. No human should besold, forced into the sex trade, and labor trafficking against their will. Anyone can be a victimregardless of race, age, so understanding rights and injustices can help ensure protection underthis article of the United Declaration of Human Rights. This relates to the contemporary viewsbecause we are helping clients, educating, and advocating for change so that the legal system cancreate tougher laws, bring awareness, and create social change. The problem is some countriesare inconsistent, so they overlook human trafficking, lack resources to help victims, and do nothave stronger laws to prevent and stop human trafficking crimes.
