Views of the video and its message are a teaching stereotype experiment by Jane Elliott to her 3 rd
graders stemming from Martin Luther King Jr. being murdered. Students didn’t understand that
King was killed from discrimination because of his skin color. Elliott decided to conduct the
experiment on two separate days with different eye colors each day. This resulted in both eye
color groups of students feeling inferior in their color eyes on their day from Elliott. The
experiment is discrimination based on eye colors blue and brown. Discrimination from the
students to the other eye color resulted in being aggressive, arguing, and harassing verbally.
Afterward, the children described that they felt horrible on the day the other eye color was more
powerful and wrong to make anyone feel bad due to being different.
Ethical issues
There can be ethical issues in conducting the stereotype or discrimination experiment with 3rd-
grade children by not meeting professional, federal, and institutional standards. An ethical issue
that might be present is the right to know, consent, protection from harm, and the right to privacy
