Mercer County, Ohio The purpose of this consumer segment profile is to look at characteristics of Mercer County, Ohio. Mercer County is located in northwestern Ohio, and it borders Indiana. This is an interesting consumer segment because the population of Mercer County closely mirrors rural populations across not only the rest of Ohio, but across the Midwest. Population of Mercer County, Ohio According to the 2000 US decennial census, the population of all persons living in Mercer County was 40,924. Of the total population, 20,440 (49.1%) were male and 20,484 (50.9%) were female. The median age was 35.7 years, with 29.6% of the population under 18 years of age, and 14.5% of the population over the age of 65.
