Lessons Learned from Genogram
When working on my family’s genogram a lot of things came to light, that I didn’t know
existed in our family. I found out that all of my aunties, my dad and his younger brother they all
had affairs, and even though they were married they didn’t have divorces because in the Indian
culture divorce is frowned up. They were not members of the church except for my dad who
converted after he married my mum and it was his by decision, my mum did not influence him at
all. When everyone at church would ask my dad when he would take us to the temple to be
sealed, he would reply when they build a temple is Fiji. When it was announced that Fiji would
have a temple, my parents announce that they were having a divorce. I still don’t understand
though why my dad’s family just shunned my mum and my aunt (uncle’s wife) because they
filed for a divorce when they finally had enough with my dad and uncle fooling around. Which is
worse having affairs while you’re married or filing for a divorce because your spouse doesn’t
