There are mainly five phases of System Development Life Cycle(SDLC). The phases are Planning, Analysis, Design, Implementation and Maintenance. Maintenance phase is the last phase of the cycle. Maintenance phase is the phase of SDLC where the system is assessed to ensure that it will work or if need to modify the system. In this phase the designer of the system find out the errors, adds, deletes or change the characteristics of the structure of a database. Maintenance is necessary to eliminate errors in the system during its working life. Find out the errors, the designer tune the system to any variations in its working environments. It must meet the scope of any future enhancement, future functionality and any other added functional features to cope up with the latest future needs. It has been seen that there are always some errors found in the system that must be noted and corrected. It also means the review of the system from time to time. The review of the system is done for: Knowing the full capabilities of the system Knowing the required changes or the additional requirements Studying the performance. If a major change to a system is needed, a new project may have to be set up to carry out the change. The new project will then proceed through all the above life cycle phases. An alternative data model is prototyping methods. In this model a prototype is built, tested and then reworked as necessary until the system is acceptable or the product can now be developed.
