BIOL1107 Activity #24 Genes and Gene Expression 1) Draw a diagram that shows the difference between DNA, a gene, a chromosome, the genome. 2) DNA Polymerase and RNA Polymerase both synthesize nucleic acid strands using a DNA as a template. How do these enzymes act similarly and how do they act differently? a) Similarities b) Differences Genome: All of the DNA in a cell. Chromosome: a single (usually large) DNA molecule wrapped in protein and comprising part of the genome. Gene: a region of DNA on a chromosome that contains information for producing an RNA or protein. Use DNA strand as template for making complementary nucleotide product Read template in 3’ - 5’ direction Separation of DNA strands by RNA pol is temporary reconnect after RNA pol passes by. RNA Pol produces RNA product RNA pol replicates only part of a chromosome. RNA pol does not need helicase, SSBs, primase, or ligase.

As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
