1. Background:
WeChat is the most popular social media in China and has lots of functions including chat, file sharing,
shopping online, loans and insurance, and so on. As of the end of September 2021, the combined monthly
active accounts of WeChat and WeChat reached 1.26 billion, a year-on-year increase of 4.1%.
2. The incident:
Apple iphone14 pre-sale started in September 2022. It was hard to order through the official website since
it was so a popular product in China and too many people wanted to have one at the same time. Then
people started to find other ways to order iphone14. There is a sales company-Yilian Buy posted an
advertisement through WeChat indicating that they have a special method to order iphone14 directly from
abroad at an even lower price compared to the official website. Yilian Buy company attracted huge
attention on WeChat. Lots of people paid through WeChat to order an iPhone 14 from the company.
