Purpose : The purpose of this lab was to be able to determine the formula for an ionic solid formed in a reaction and to write the chemical equation for the reaction. Procedure : Tatz, R. Casey, J. General Chemistry Laboratory Experiments Volume 1, p. 21-34. Data/Observations: See attached sheets. Questions: 1.) The charge for Iodide is -1 in KI when potassium has a +1 charge. The charge for a lead ion in lead iodide is +1 because Iodide always has a -1 charge. The formula for lead sulfide is PbS when sulfide is -2 lead must be +2. 3.) The charge for gold in the compound gold (I) bromide; AuBr; is +1, because bromide has a charge of -1. AuBr 3 is called gold(III) bromide, and gold will have a +3 charge. 6.) No test tube would have neither ion in excess. In order to have neither ion in excess one must add 48 drops of sodium iodide to 12 drops of cerium(II) sulfate. Ce(SO
