Lecture 3 1. Greece origin 2. Kouros, youth, standing figure. Not certain what their purpose. Idealized o Archaic, 600BC o Marble, over six feet tall, monumental o Stiff pose, left leg extended forward. Represent relaxed pose o Large eyes, Sumerian culture, eyes portal to soul o Fists. Hands at side o Lines suggesting the presence of muscles, mapping of the body o Knees the most mechanical aspect from a frontal view. o Symmetrical figure, lateral. 3. 535 BC Kouros from Anavisos o Marble, six-four. o Funeral statue, closed fists, left foot forwar, better knees o Face, stronger features, more block, more porpotional structure. Eyes no longer exaggerated,  hairline more naturealmore subtle modeling. o More rounded in form , there is a better portrayal of human body structure and texture o Archaic smile 4. Kore, maiden, Louvre o 650 BC, 2 ft tall, limestone. Feet together, right hand raised to the chest o Certain amount of swellig in the musculature. o
