Statistics 2 Q1 Smoking and lung cancer a) i. The target population in these studies were men who smoked cigarettes ii. Prospective studies- studies that resemble randomized clinical studies but aimed at assessing the outcome of a certain disease during the period of the study while watching out for certain suspected factors that play a role in its development (Reich, 1997) iii. We must watch out for the existence of other extraneous variables (control variables). In this case, this would be an correlational design quantitative study b) Case-Control- A case control study in this case would involve comparing subjects who have lung cancer (cases) with subjects who do not have lung cancer (controls) and then retrospectively try and compare how exposure to a risk factor (cigarette) is present in each group and then come up with a correlation (Elwood, 2007). c) A cohort study- in this case we would investigate the cause of lung-cancer and establish the link between the risk factors (cigarette smoking) and health outcome (lung cancer).

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
