The article, Putting Forecasting In FOCUS by Carolyn Hirschman, investigates the importance of forecasting in workforce planning. Planning helps eliminate gaps in the workforce, it also aids in predicting turnover rates. Planning is the study of labor supply versus demand data. It determines how many opportunities a human resource manager has available and how many must be filled to effectively staff the company. HR planning is the process of forecasting the organization’s future employment needs and then developing action staffing plans and programs (Heneman, 2006). HR managers have to adapt to the changing demographics to ensure the company has ample employment opportunities to make the business successful. Executives need the ability to translate business strategies into capital and weigh various options (Hirschman, 2007). There are several questions that management has to ask HR to start the workforce planning. Management has to identify the business goals and objectives. Management
