David Lum SCM 406W 4/6/08 Chapter 7 3. There are many types of sources that purchasers can seek information from. One of the easiest sources to obtain information is from the current suppliers. This allows the purchaser to do business with a familiar supplier as well as not having to switch or add on new ones. However, they will not be able to see if there are better alternatives and may affect them in the long run. A purchasing firm can also get information from sales representative. These can become valuable for the company if they see a need for the supplier’s skills in the future, even if the company doesn’t require their services currently. Information databases within a company can help sort for supplier based on needs. It contains much information from current and future products to performance reports. Although there is a great quantity of information, it can be hard to maintain due to growth of technology. Acquiring information from experienced purchasers can also help since most companies don’t have a database.
