From my understanding of the readings, the definition of a scholar-
practitioner is a master of knowledge who continues researching and
sharing that knowledge. Scholars work to become experts in their chosen
fields and then try to find ways to share their knowledge; usually, they
share that knowledge academically by writing or teaching. However, the
scholar-practitioner model encourages another outlet for that knowledge
which is becoming an active practitioner in their field. By practicing their
knowledge and developing different skills they benefit their clients,
colleagues, and other potential scholar-practitioners. According to Gregory
M. Bouck ’ s (2011) article, “ scholar-practitioners conjoin the strategies and
knowledge gained through meticulous academic endeavors with
experiences and knowledge inherent to membership in their craft to form
the basis of effective, change-centered practices ” (p. 203). The overall
understanding is that by joining research and practices together we can be
more effective psychologists. Because we have all chosen Purdue
