MARGARET SANGER 2 This paper will discuss Margaret Higgins Sanger, one of the historical health figures and their associated public health contributions. By discussing her background, the public health issue of her time, how she overcame the barriers from those around her, and the contributions she made to healthcare we will have a general idea of how she shaped reproductive health for women using contraception. Born in 1883 in Corning, NY, Margaret dedicated her life to women’s rights and pursuing women privileges to birth control. She trained as a nurse at White Plains Hospital, “her work among the poor in New York City convinced her of the widespread need for information concerning contraception.” (Funk & Wagnalls 2016) In 1910, she started a magazine to promote these privileges for women.
