Identify various community helpers and know how they help in our community. 2. Take on pretend roles of different community workers 3. Draw a community worker incorporating the various tools/objects in their drawing that the community helper uses to complete his/her job. 4. Develop social skills by sharing with peers how their chosen community worker helps the community. Materials Video Tools used by various workers Adaptations to the Curriculum and Environment Maintain the interest areas, by keeping sufficient clothing and other play materials in these areas.

Have adequate material available so the students can role play a variety of roles and scenarios. Frequently change the small groups so that students feel comfortable talking/playing/working and getting along with each other and not just their group members. The students in the various groups will be given a chance to take on the roles of different workers so that they each get to experience and discuss a different worker. Have different centers in the class to allow for more freedom of choice and creativity among students. Activity Introduction Students will view a video on workers in the Community. Development Step 1 After viewing the video, students will engage in a discussion where they discuss: 1. The workers seen in the video 2. The jobs that those workers do 3. The tools or equipment used by the different workers. Step 2 Students will give other examples of workers in the community and the job of those workers. Step 3 Students will be placed in groups. Each group will be given a community worker. Students, in their groups, will go to the dramatic play area and choose a tool/ clothing item/ equipment used by their community worker.
