3 Human Resource Management > Human Resource Management (HRM) includes a collection of management functions necessary to an organisation directly related to human resources utilised by the organisation including: ± Job design (division of labor) ± Recruitment, selection, training, development ± Performance evaluation, compensation, promotion ± Supervision, motivation, discipline ± Health and safety, counselling ± Industrial relations, collective bargaining Human Resource Management > The trend ± HRM continues to increase in its (broad) range of functions covered ± For public companies, the head of HR is more typically a senior company executive reporting directly to the CEO > Role of HRM ± Now considered a significant source of competitive advantage ± An important element of strategic planning ± No longer just the “personnel department” shuffling hire/fire and payroll paperwork
