Iw Skin gets shed everyday. Cells in our intestine continue to divide • Cells in our lungs divide to make new lung cells • Our cell divion has stopped for the most part though ← Genes that control micro cell division need to tell them to stop cell division ← ← When development goes wrong cancer • cells do not stop divding excess cells o or they are told to die by apoptosis and do not die, causing cancer • Cancer is one of the main killers in the wetern world • Infectious diseases used to kill people in early 20 th century, but now cancer is the number two killer. • heart attack and stroke were not as common in early 20 th century o better hygene, water supply, etc prevents the infectious bacterial diseases o Now, heart disease and cancer are two biggest killers o Cancer is now the biggest killer o Male Cancer death rates: cancer is on the decline in males, except for LUNG CANCER lung cancer parallels number of people who smoke o Female cancer ate lung cancer is main killer…on the rise breast cancer and colon cancer is prevalent in women as well o Male cancer rate, 1 in 2.
