In order to have very little to no recidivism during this discussion, I would bring up thenecessity of therapy for at least three to four months prior to their release date.Counseling and re-entry preparation are required for prisoners. I would also bring outthese convicts' lack of development and the requirement for training in "adult" behaviorgiven that many of them were young when they were sentenced to prison. They shouldbe able to comprehend what it's like to work, complete paperwork, and make paymentson bills. I would resolve the conflict between the responsibility to protect the counselorsand engaging with the prisoner and applying reasoning. I would try to get prisoners toserve a shorter term first. I'd gently tell them that their stay is almost over and thatfighting or bickering won't make time go by more quickly; rather, therapy is necessarybefore they can be freed. I would speak with the strict jail guards first, as they are theones who would probably encounter this prisoner again. These police officers need tounderstand that they are responsible for these prisoners. One issue iwould address would be about the reintegration programs. I would want to focus a lot onreintegrating prisoners back into society for as long as possible after being incarceratedbecause that way they can learn to get better and be well prepared for when its time togo back into the world. This would really help them that way they don't end up in theprocess of recidivism. I would want to pair counselors with other officers to avoid anysort of trouble or violent behavior that offenders would want to cause to the counselorswho really only want to help them. Especially because the super max prisoners can bevery dangerous and a threat to one it would be best to keep the counselors or otherstaff safe. I would not want hard-line correction officers who don't care what happens toprisoners after being released.Even if one dislikes an offender , I believe it is morallycorrect to care about them as human beings and wishing them nothing but the bestattitude would be perfect from a correction officer because it is part of showingprofessionalism no matter how bad the case is. The reason being is because, accordingto Schmalleger and Smykla (2021) ,Professionalism is very significant within thecorrectional field.
