Homework 7 solution In HYSYS, 1. 7.186e-2 2. The efficiency of this process is not good. 4. Decreasing temperature of stream 8 causes decrease of efficiency. Using methane chart, 27C: Stream 3: P=6000kPa, T=27C=80.6F, H3=1150 kJ/kg Stream 8: P=100kPa, T=26.99C=80.6F, H8=1200 kJ/kg H4=H5, Stream 6: saturated liquid, H6=300 kJ/mol Stream 7: saturated vapor, H7=800 kJ/mol System energy balance: H3=H6*x+H8*(1-x) x=0.0556 5C: Only stream 8 changes: P=100kPa, T=5C=41.0F, H8=1160 kJ/kg System energy balance: H3=H6*x+H8*(1-x) x=0.0116 HYSYS calculation is much more accurate than using the chart. However, since HYSYS calculation is often based on semi-empirical EOS, chart calculation is closer to the real value. But the error from HYSYS can be minimized by choosing proper EOS, while the error from chart calculation is difficult to mitigate.
