Unformatted text preview: Int roduction Upon Reviewing Main problems 1. External problems The Skylab’s overall group performance could be higher if given more support from ground control. External factors influence the group performance and the level of satisfaction. The well-constructed communication channel with the minimum level of noise would have prevented the strike of third crew. The problems also include attribution theory in which the third crew members blame the ground control for the poor result of experiments by putting crews under the excessive workload and tight schedule. Both of ground control and third crew use self-serving bias to justify their actions. Besides of the communication problem, supplies and environment given were greatly disorganized as well. Communication problem The crew began to feel even more aggravated when they felt that mission control was regarding their health by cutting into exercise time, which the astronauts knew was crucial to prevent body deterioration that is caused by weightlessness. Mission control disregarded crews’ wishes by not allowing the crew free time where they could simply enjoy the beauty of space. Ground crew did not take heed of the warning given by the second crew. They ignored their warning on the third crew that they need the first month t rying to get acclimated to space life. So the third crew entered Skylab 13 hours early without the initial period of one or two days of weightlessness in the smaller command module. – IGNORANCE. Low richness of the channel. During the entire Skylab experiments, the communication between the third crew and the Houston Mission Control remained the form of one-way communication. Ground control seemingly assumed that crews must be controlled and obedient and do whatever ground control orders. Spending four million dollars a week for keeping crews in space, NASA tended to rush the project with high expectancy of success on the Skylab project and this high-speed pace resulted in selective perception bias. With the high intent on result of experiments, the ground control disregarded wishes of astronauts which were simply having some free time to enjoy the beauty of space. The ground crew also ignored the warnings on the third crew which was given by the second team. The third crew entered Skylab 13 hours early without any initial period of adjustment in the smaller command module and correspondingly they had to suffer from physical deterioration. Crews were also ordered to cut the exercise time to invest more time on their tasks which became a crucial problem to their health. In short, their relationship was strongly task-oriented without any relationship-oriented characteristics....
