This is an observational study because thoseconducting the study observed the individuals participating and did not make an attempt to affectthe outcome.Methods:The methods used to collect the data were through sending out invitations to all pregnant womenof 17-18 weeks’ gestation receiving an ultrasound via mail. Of the invitations that were sent out,40% of the women responded and the study had a total of 112,768 participants. There were thenquestionnaires that were sent out to all of the participants who agreed to partake in the study. Thequestionnaires asked the women to respond with the amount of alcohol consumed alcohol overthe last three months. Variables were also added to this study, so on the questionnaire, womenalso answered questions in regard to the amount of smoking she has done in her life, pre-pregnancy height and weight as well as her maternal anxiety.
