Andrew Gutierez Professor D’ Arcus Terrorism and the New Geopolitics March 31, 2008 The Political Geography of Iraq The country of Iraq seems to be more like a Nation because most of the country has similar backgrounds with culture. Adding to the culture, there is language, which is Arabic, while the religion is 97% Muslim. The main difference in the identities inside the country of Iraq is the Kurdish background. The Kurds mostly inhabit the northern parts of Iraq and span across many different countries that border the northern part of Iraq. The Kurds actually have 15-20 percent of the population in Iraq. The country is still constantly changing and are made possible with modern mass-communication and literacy. The nation was invented by an intellectual elite, known as England from the early 20 th century, when they were one of the power’s in the world. The geographic part to the region where the Kurds inhabit is typically mountainous and there are not many big cites at all. Northern mountainous regions along Iranian and Turkish borders experience
