Andrew Gutierez MUS 189 B Review of a Symphonic Band Concert Miami University, Hall Auditorium, February 26 th , 2008. The other day I heard from a friend that there was to be a concert held at the Hall Auditorium, and Miami University’s symphony was to be playing accompanied with the University of Dayton’s Symphony. I had never really gone to a Symphony Orchestra before, I usually go to a choral performance or an Opera, so I didn’t know what this was going to be like. I have always wanted to go to a Symphony, but with me it was either an Opera, or a Symphony. At the end of the performance while on my way back to my dorm, I thought about how impressive it is to hear so many different instruments coming together to make such a beautiful sound. The first performance of the night was Marche Slave, op. 31 by Pyotr llyich Tchaikovsky. The piece was performed by the University of Dayton Symphony Orchestra, there were 30 or so people on stage for this piece. The intro was low from the violas and bassoons rather the wind instruments, the flutes and clarinets lift it up in pitch. The oboes then lift the piece one more time.
