01.07 Ethics Case 1 Proposal : The Psychology department wants permission to use 10 rats per semester, and let the students in a physiological psychology class to perform surgery in these rats. Although rats would be allowed to recover, the destroying of the part of the animal’s brain will gather no new information. But it allows students to engage in small animal surgery to see the effects of brain lesions. Response : I would deny this study. It’s unethical because the students would inflict a lot of harm in the animals, and it is possible that they will not be able to function properly after the surgery is done. Case 2 Proposal: The university is requesting an approval on the continue of a practice on animals that were left in animal shelters. Response: I would approve this practice. I believe its ethical because it could help with the research of animal care and would do more good than bad. Although, there should be regulations set by the
