When the US got involved the enemy we were fighting against was Germany, Austria, Hungary. Our allies were Russia, France, Great Britain b. If Russia pulled out of war, German soldiers would pull out of Russia and head toward us. 2. RUSSIA PULLING OUT OF WORLD WAR 1 3. SEDITION ACT OF 1917 a. Made it illegal to speak your opinions about war. b. Debbs continued to speak out against war. It was illegal. He was thrown in jail and continued to run for president. c. This hurt the socialist cause d. Debb looked unpatriotic during this war. Debbs was close enough to being a communist and he was in our country opposing the war effort. 4. GREEN CORN REBELION 1917 a. Oklahoma. b. Attempted to arrive at nation’s capital with massive demonstration against the war. c. They did not even make it out of Oklahoma d. The Green Corn Rebels became frustrated when no one backed them.
e. They blew up bridges, vandalized public and private property. Burned down green corn fields in spring.
