2 The views that people hold regarding politics have a major influence in how they view the world. These different political views cause political biases. Political biases are present in many different ways within the media, particularly different news channels. One of the most common forms of media bias that happens on the news channels is bias by omission. With so many different events going on worldwide and locally, news channels must be selective on which stories they choose to feature. Certain news channels hold a liberal view, which effects the content that they choose to feature. Other news channels have a conservative view and choose to feature stories that are centered around conservative values. These omissions and preferences within media cause certain media outlets to have political biases. Many people only recognize liberal biases within media and fail to acknowledge that conservative biases are equally as common. The belief that media has a liberal bias stems from a research study that was done back in the seventies and eighties where a survey was done with results showing that the majority of news reporters hold liberal beliefs rather than conservative beliefs. For example, many people believe that the Fox News Channel has a conservative bias regarding their news coverage. One particular news report that was aired on the Fox News Channel in May of 2015, caused a large controversy regarding its apparent conservative bias. In that report, the program’s hosts showed a video that aimed to examine the “Four Years of Hope and Change.” In reality, the video showed a variety of soundbites by President Obama that were accompanied with ominous graphics and uneasy music which were meant to imply that his campaign promises had been unkept and were false. The video clearly was intended to promote the actions of Romney over those of Obama. Apparently, Fox News did recognize this bias when confronted, and they removed the ad only minutes after it was posted online. They did post another edited version of the video shortly after, which was also removed. During the final
